Field of Dreams Amplifies the Heart and Soul

Years ago I went to visit the Field of Dreams. The baseball field tourist attraction in Dyersville, Iowa made famous by the movie starring Kevin Costner  brought a sense of peace to my heart. The Field of Dreams magnified my soul.

They will come, Field of Dreams.

When I went to see the Field of Dreams, it was the 15th anniversary of the movie’s release.

Special events were slated to commemorate the occasion.

The ghost players wandered out of the corn field to play ball.

“If you build it, they will come.” The words haunted me that day.

I sat in the bleachers and took in my precious moment. I was there for a very specific purpose. My life was in a season of change. I was living my very own field of dreams. I watched some of the families take their children out on the field. Tourists were allowed to play baseball. And I watched these young dreamers fulfill their fantasies.

“People will come, Ray,” James Earl Jones says to Kevin Costner. “They’ll come to Iowa for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they’re doing it. They’ll arrive at your door as innocent as children longing for the past.”

During this scene Jones is describing what will happen if Costner keeps his property. About to be foreclosed on, Costner has to make a decision.

Field of Dreams

The day I visited the Field of Dreams was about all my dreams coming true.

All the years of hard work, climbing the corporate ladder to success, my career finally hit an ultimate high. I was excited. I just accepted an offer for my dream job. I felt blessed. I was incredibly happy. God heard my cries. God blessed me. I wanted to thank Him.

So I took the road trip to Field of Dreams. I sat in those bleachers on that summer day. I watched the children play baseball. I watched the ghost players come out of the corn field. I looked at the peaceful surroundings. And I said, “thank you.”

It’s a moment I’ll never forget. The day I visited Field of Dreams was the day all my dreams had come true.

As Jones told Costner, “People will come,” and I did.

“This field, this game, it’s a part of our past Ray. It reminds us, of all that once was good and it could be again.”

The Field of Dreams property sits on 193 acres. Recently the movie site was sold to an investment group. They plan to add more baseball fields and expand the tourist attraction. They will, in essence, be offering more dreams to ordinary people like me.  Given the opportunity to return, I will go back. If they build it, yes, I will come.

This is a magical place where memories are served like a fresh cup of coffee. It’s a mystical place where peace enters the blood vain of every human heart. It’s a place where dreams come true.

This Field of Dreams stirs the human spirit and awakens the soul.

James Earl Jones Message in the Field of Dreams

Through every trial, wisdom can be attained, and with every circumstance there’s a chance for your faith to grow. For when we live by faith and not by sight, we open ourself to the possibilities of our hearts. These are the stepping stones of our soul, our journey to the life we were born to have. I'm living the dream and in faith, I'm doing both. My gift is to share some inspiration along the way.
